Create a system image fails with "the data area passed to a system call is too small (0x8007007A) when TrueCrypt is in use
After "Backup and Restore" is started and "Create a system image" is chosen, the "Looking for backup devices" dialog pops up. After a while it fails with "Windows could not find backup devices on this computer. The following information might explain why this error occured: The data area passed to a system call is too small. (0x8007007A). Close Windows Backup and try again". Saving the backup is then impossible, as all the dropdown menus (On a hard disk, On one or more DVDs) are empty (only contain <Refresh>). Clicking <Refresh> leads to the error popping up again. Closing Windows backup does not help. Restarting the system does not help. I can reproduce the error every time I try to create a system image. Windows build: 7600.16385.x86fre.win7_rtm.090713-1255 I am using TrueCrypt, but the system partition is NOT encrypted. However, I have a TrueCrypt volume "T:". Dismounting the TrueCrypt volume makes the error go away.

This was helpful for me, as i am also using TrueCrypt with a mounted volume. However, there is data on that volume i want to include in my backup. How can this be accomplished?

Go to the following website: Windows 7 Compatibility Center You will see a Software and Hardware tab that you can use to locate the product you wish to check for compatibility. Select the Compatibility FAQ that will explain how to use the compatibility website. If you find an installed software/hardware item that does not appear on the compatibility list, go to the website of the maker of that product and check for any updates.Be especially thorough about checking the installed antivirus, antispyware, and any third party system backup programs. Hope this helps. Ronnie Vernon MVP
